Pediatric Therapy Programs

In Session This Summer 2019:

Sensory Friendly Safety Town

Sensory Friendly Safety Town is an offering of Safety Town in collaboration with Fisher-Titus Medical Center, the Norwalk Police Department and the Norwalk Rotary that has been adapted for children with disabilities. We will teach children how to make safe choices when crossing the street, how to take action in emergency situations, fire safety, medication safety, and more. In addition, the following will be provided at Sensory Friendly Safety Town: visual schedules, 1:1 volunteer support, a modified Safety Town Curriculum, and take-home social stories on emergency situations.

Where: Main Street School
When: Monday - Thursday, 12:30 p.m. - 2 p.m.
Dates: 6/24 - 6/27
Ages: 5 and up
Cost: FREE


Dance and Performance Camp

At Dance and Performance Camp children will learn themed, structured dance routines that are fun and educational. This camp promotes social skills, builds confidence, and improves motor coordination in a fun group environment. This group is appropriate for children who have autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome, sensory disorders, developmental, and neurological disorders.

Where: Norwalk High School Performing Arts Center
When: Monday-Friday, 10:30 a.m. - Noon
Dates: 7/15-7/19 with performance on Friday, 7/19
Ages: 5-10
Cost: $180

Adapted Cooking Camp

Adapted cooking camp is designed to promote social skills, language skills, and problem solving abilities during cooking activities. This year’s focus will be on “keeping it simple!” with basic and delicious recipes that allow the participants to gain autonomy in the kitchen while in a safe and fun environment. Material fees are included with the cost of the program. Two age groups will be offered this year and overall Adapted Cooking Camp is for children ages 5 and up with autism spectrum disorders, Down syndrome, sensory disorders, and other neurological disorders.

When: Wednesdays, 10 a.m. - Noon
Dates: 7/10, 7/17, 7/24, 7/31, 8/7
Ages: 5 and 16

Creative Campers

Creative Campers is designed to promote social skills, language skills, and problem solving abilities during fun activities and crafts. Children will engage in activities such as pottery, gardening and other summer activities. Material fees are included with the cost of the program. Two age groups will be offered this year and Creative Campers is for children with autism spectrum disorders, Down syndrome, sensory disorders, and other neurological disorders.

When: Wednesdays, 1 - 3 p.m.
Dates: 7/10, 7/17, 7/24, 7/31, 8/7
Ages: 5 - 16

SMILE Group -“Sensory Motor Integrated Learning Experience” for children on the Autism Spectrum

A seven-week program designed for children with autism spectrum and/ or sensory disorders. This group will provide fun and structured play/ learning experiences with basic social skills included. Emphasis will be on sensory and motor activities, including simple obstacle courses, finger plays, tactile play, snack time, group games, and fine motor coordination games.

Where: The Kids Place at Fisher-Titus Medical Center
When: Fridays, 9 - 10:30 a.m. or 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Dates: 6/21, 6/28, 7/12, 7/19, 7/26, 8/2, 8/9
Ages: 3-5
Cost: $165


Fine Motor Follies

Printing Made Easy focuses on incorporating all of the senses to improve the basic skills involved in handwriting. This group is for children who are struggling with letter formation, spacing and line placement. Children should be doing well with coloring, cutting, and drawing but still need help with their printing skills.

Where:  The Kids Place at Fisher-Titus Medical Center
When: Tuesdays, 9:30 - 11 a.m.
Dates: 7/9, 7/16, 7/23, 7/30, 8/6
Ages: 4-6
Cost: $130
