Fisher-Titus Announces Plan for Local Cardiovascular Care

Fisher-Titus Cardiology Plan includes new physician group and expanded services

NORWALK, Ohio, Nov. 1, 2018 - Fisher-Titus has announced its plans to provide a new level of cardiovascular care that includes expanding the scope of services available for the community at the Snyder/White Heart & Vascular Center, according to Dr. Brent W. Burkey, president of Fisher-Titus Health.

The plan begins with the introduction of Fisher-Titus Cardiology, a new physician practice based in the Snyder/White Heart & Vascular Center. This will be the first time since the inception of Fisher-Titus’ heart and vascular program in 2008 that cardiovascular specialists will be Fisher-Titus employed physicians.

“We are pleased to welcome two experienced interventional cardiologists, Dr. Gaby Aoun and Dr. Juan Weksler, to Fisher-Titus and the community,” said Dr. Burkey. “The Fisher-Titus Cardiology office in the Heart & Vascular Center will open December 3. Patients can begin making appointments now by calling 419-660-4707.”

Dr. Burkey explained that the expertise of the new cardiologists also provides the opportunity to expand services for heart patients.

“In early 2019, for the first time, the Fisher-Titus Cardiology physicians will be able to treat acute heart attacks, complete testing, and perform stent procedures right here at Fisher-Titus -- keeping our commitment of providing quality cardiology care close to home,” said Dr. Burkey.

Currently, diagnostic heart catheterizations can be performed in the Heart & Vascular Center. With the addition of interventional cardiologists and approval by the Ohio Department of Health, Fisher-Titus will be able to operate as an interventional catheterization lab, which means stenting of the heart can also be performed locally.

“This is something we were not able to offer in any of our prior relationships,” said Dr. Burkey. “We are very pleased to introduce this level of care to our patients so they can stay close to home instead of being referred to another facility for heart caths.”

Past patients will see familiar faces among the caregivers at the Heart & Vascular Center. “Our experienced Heart & Vascular Center nursing and support team is well-known to our patients, and they look forward to caring for our patients,” said Dr. Burkey.
