Birthing Center

The Birthing Experience at Fisher-Titus

From the moment you arrive at Fisher-Titus Medical Center, you’ll receive exceptional care for you and your baby, delivered by our highly skilled maternity team. The Birthing Center at Fisher-Titus is a space designed for maternity patients, infants and families, providing you with a safe, secure recovery environment. Our center uses the latest maternal-fetal monitoring, which allows your physician to monitor you and your baby’s health 24 hours a day.

We know that a new baby is often a family affair. The Birthing Center welcomes and encourages all family members to enjoy the birth of the newest family member, but to provide our moms and infants the safest care possible, the number of visitors permitted during labor is limited to three. After the delivery, you may invite additional family members to visit you and your baby.

Throughout your stay, our staff works to provide new families with a restful, healing environment. This includes the observation of “Quiet Time” from 1:30-3 p.m. every day. During “Quiet Time” a gentle announcement will play overhead, followed by soft, healing piano music. This time is set aside for the parents and new baby to have family bonding time. For this hour and a half, all babies in the Nursery will be brought to their mother’s room for additional Skin-to-Skin Care (Kangaroo Care) with mom and dad.

To support our new mothers who choose to breastfeed, Fisher-Titus Lactation Consultants visit our Birthing Center daily and will come to you in the privacy of your room. She will assist you with breastfeeding, pumping, or answer any questions that you may have about breastfeeding. For your convenience, electric breast pumps are available to use during your stay.

Kangaroo Care

We want to give you and your little one the best possible start. As soon as your baby has been safely delivered, we offer Skin-to-Skin, or Kangaroo Care. Kangaroo Care is a special way to hold your baby. Wearing only a diaper, your baby is placed directly on your chest. Doctors say this is the “best care” for your baby immediately after delivery.
